The sticker price lies. Here is the number that does not.

Every ammo search ranks by the price on the box. That number is not what you pay. Ammo is heavy, shipping is real, and on a bulk order it can swing the true cost more than the sticker ever shows. So we rank by the delivered cost per round: the pack price plus shipping, divided by the rounds in the box.

A worked example

Say two stores both list a 1000 round case of 9mm. Store A shows $249.99 and charges $44 to ship it. Store B shows $264.99 with free shipping. Sticker says A wins. Delivered says otherwise:

StoreSticker / roundShippingDelivered / round
Store A$0.250$44$0.294
Store B$0.265free$0.265

Store B is cheaper by 2.9 cents a round, about $29 on the case, even though its sticker looks worse. That is the number our board leads with. Try it yourself with the cost per round calculator.

Two numbers, and which one you see

Deliveredis price plus shipping. We show it only when we have verified the seller's shipping policy, or the listing itself states free shipping. Listed is the sticker price per round. Where shipping is unknown, that is all we show, and we label it a lower bound, because the real cost can only be higher. We never invent a shipping cost to make a number look complete.

To verify a policy we read the seller's own shipping page and keep the exact sentence that states the rate, along with the date we checked. Delivered excludes sales tax and state fees, which depend on where you live. We say that on every page too.

Questions

What is delivered cost per round?
It is the total you actually pay, the pack price plus shipping, divided by the number of rounds. A 1000 round case at $250 with $12 shipping is $262 delivered, or about 26.2 cents per round, not the 25 cents the sticker implies.
Why does the sticker price lie?
Ammo is heavy, so shipping is a real chunk of the cost, especially on bulk. A store with a low sticker price and a $90 shipping charge on 1000 rounds can cost more delivered than a store with a higher sticker and free shipping. Ranking by sticker alone hides that.
When do you show a delivered number versus a listed one?
We show a delivered number only when we have verified the seller's shipping policy or the listing itself states free shipping. Where shipping is unknown, we show the listed price and label it a lower bound. We never guess a shipping cost.
Does delivered cost include tax?
No. Delivered folds in shipping, but it excludes sales tax and any state fees, because those depend on where you live and are set at checkout. We say so on every page.
How do you verify a shipping policy?
We read the seller's own shipping page and record the exact sentence that states the rate, plus the date we checked. A flat rate or a free-over-threshold offer becomes a delivered number. A policy that only calculates at checkout stays labeled unknown until it can be pinned.
